30 Years of Bamboo Artistry in Kohima
Mr. Kevichüsa
Lead Craftsman & Workshop Supervisor
30+ years experience
BSF Camp Rd, Kohima, Nagaland, India
Mr. Kevichüsa began learning bamboo crafting at the age of 12 from his grandfather, who was one of the most respected artisans in the Kohima region. Over three decades, he has perfected the traditional techniques while adapting them for modern kitchen needs.
His workshop in Kohima has trained over 50 young artisans, ensuring that these ancient skills continue to thrive. Each piece he creates carries the wisdom of generations, combined with his own innovations in design and functionality.
"Bamboo is not just a material for us," says Kevichüsa, "it's a connection to our ancestors and a gift to future generations. Every utensil we make tells a story of our culture and our commitment to sustainable living."
Traditional Bamboo Crafting Methods Used in Our Kohima Workshop
The Complete Journey from Forest to Kitchen
Forest Selection
Our artisans carefully select mature bamboo stalks from managed forests around Kohima. Only bamboo that is 3-4 years old is chosen, ensuring optimal strength and flexibility.
Natural Curing
The bamboo undergoes a traditional curing process using natural methods. This strengthens the fibers and removes excess moisture, making the material more durable and resistant to cracking.
Hand Shaping
Using traditional tools passed down through generations, our artisans carefully shape each piece. Every curve and angle is crafted by hand, ensuring perfect ergonomics and functionality.
Natural Finishing
The final step involves sanding with natural materials and applying food-safe oils. This creates a smooth, safe surface that's perfect for kitchen use while maintaining the natural beauty of bamboo.
